Friday Evening Concert

We’ll be kicking off this year’s Huddersfield Jazz Guitar Festival at The Rat and Ratchet.

It all kicks off in the afternoon with a Charlie Christian workshop in the afternoon followed by a concert in the evening from 7.30pm with The Charlie Christian Collective.

The Charlie Christian Collective, originally formed in 2016, is a group led by guitarist Darren Dutson Bromley. They play tunes associated with Charlie Christian and Benny Goodman. The line up, consisting of four guitars, bass and drums play close harmony arrangements from the golden age of swing.

The music continues from 9pm with Gary Potter.

Gary Potter is thought by many to be one of the best jazz and country guitarists active today. Regarded highly in the USA, Europe, Australia, South America and of course, throughout the UK, he commands the respect of his fellow musicians and for those who are lucky enough to see him are astounded at his technique.

His musical experience is extensive and covers jazz, blues and particularly gypsy jazz. He is known for his musical versatility, combining a melodic, lyrical, imaginative musicality with a perfect rhythmic sense. in the UK he is known as “the king of gypsy jazz and swing”.
